The forest was illuminated, the light soft through the screen of leaves. Rainstorm's hazel eyes narrowed and squinted against the light as she stalked through the forest, her paws following no path in particular. Sometimes life seemed to rush forward full speed ahead, going so fast you barely had enough time to blink. It seemed as though just yesterday Rainstorm was just getting to know the warrior Barkshadow and hadn't even discovered she was expecting kits.
Now, Barkshadow and her had grown apart a bit due to conflicting opinions and her kits were grown, or half-grown at least and out exploring the world with their Clanmates. She still got a nervous clutch in her stomach at the thought of her daughters, petite and sweet at birth, now warriors. But she had a pang of resentment towards her youngest. Cindermist was a cat to be proud of, but she did nothing to protect and serve the Clan in a way Rainstorm was comfortable with. Of course, she was proud, unbelievably so, but maybe because she was such a fiercely loyal cat, her Clan loyalty overshadowed even her family.
So, Rainstorm found himself wandering the forest alone, feeling as though she had to catch her breath as life blurred past. She sighed, her chest rose and fell as the older warrior stopped to sit under a tree. It had been a long time since the silver she-cat had had time to herself, where she was free from duties for even just a little while. Though she didn’t particularly try and take time off like this, it was nice to enjoy the cool weather. This was the perfect time to take some time for herself. The Clan was fed, patrols taken care of. The Clans were in a time of peace. Everything was fine, on the outside. But now that she was out here, Rainstorm wasn't exactly sure how she felt.
Rainstorm didn't know how long she sat there before the soft skittering under some old leaves made her ears prick in interest. Instinct made the Thunderclan warrior lean forward in a crouch, her ears lying flat on her head and her yellow eyes narrowed. With skilled experience, Rainstorm stepped forward, placing her paws with fluid movements. This was the perfect distraction from her stressful thoughts and without thinking, the she-cat leaped, pinning the mouse under her front claws. Now that she had made his kill, Rainstorm realized she wasn't very hungry. Now what?
