it wasn't like he wanted to be in a bad mood, it wasn't on his list of priorities, but sometimes, you wake up in a bad mood and you just want to yowl at the top of your lungs. something about his dreams the night before, had put him in a really bad mood, though he couldn't put his tongue on it, no matter how hard he tried. blinking hard until he felt pressure in his crown, eaglestrike let out a snarl to himself and stalked off in a random direction, tail lashing behind him.
though he didn't remember his dream, he was certain it had something to do with his father. a thought or a dream of his sire always sent his mind reeling with guilt, and hatred for the tom. there had to be something more than that to his mood. every sound made his pelt stand on end, and every sharp stone that cut through the cold leaf-fall blanket made him want to lose his mind. he needed to hunt, to kill, take his temper out on something other than his clan mates. the last thing he needed was for his clanmates to think he was a crack pot.
then again, why did he even care what his clanmates thought of him? he didn't care before, so why should he care now? lip curling in a smirk, he shook his head and surveyed his surroundings with a critical eye. the air felt cool on his nose, and tiny droplets froze on his whiskers as the leaf-fall air bit into him. green eyes gazing out over the lake, a knot in his stomach tightened painfully. leaf-bare was hanging over the lake ominously, and as the air became colder, so did the water, and that meant less prey for riverclan. frustration at the thought of a preyless leaf-bare ripped through his body like a thousand knives.
stopping in his tracks, he glanced down at the waterfall, a weak trickle of crystalline liquid running over the rocks deep under the ice that had enveloped the water. mouth opening slightly, he released a deep breath, as a shiver traced its cold finger down his spine.

what the apprentice was surprised at was the site of eaglestrike, the deputy of the clan wandering about the little waterfall. she could sense the agitation that coursed through him, although thought of it as nothing but the annoyance at the cold weather. it certainly was one of the worst leafbare's she had seen. well, it was actually just the only leafbare she had seen, but the thought of something worse than this shocked her enough to not think about that fact. letting out a small huff of air through her nose, the white smoke blowing away from her before vanishing into thin air, and the she-cat would press forward toward the warrior, a cheery smile stretching her lips. "enjoying the scenery?" she asked, going for an absent-minded sort of thing as she casually stood at the edge of the cold water, her green eyes staring into it's near-frozen depths. sure it was a small waterfall, but it was enough to hurt yourself it you slipped and fell from it, which was why the tabby was not going in the water at all. she despised pain, having seen it everywhere in her den and hoped to starclan she never had to get rainblaze to give her herbs simply because she had a little slip.
shaking the thoughts away, the feline would slowly lift one of her front paws before poking at the ice in front of her. softly at first, to test just how strong it was. after it didn't break, the she-cat gave it a few more stabs, gradually hitting it harder and harder before giving up to save making a fool of herself. only little kits played around with the snow and ice, and lichenpaw had to prove that she wasn't a kitten anymore. her young age made her feel slightly below everyone else in the clan, the small number of current apprentices being a down factor to her. she was to be mature and act nicely in front of everyone she conversed with, just for the sake of her dignity. what she pushed aside was the fact that the warriors probably wouldn't mind her being quite playful, it being a rather stupid thing to believe for her.[/style] |

ears twitching at the sound of an approaching cat, he felt his body stiffen and the fur on the back of his neck stand on end. it definitely was one of those days where the presence of other cats was going to irritate him to no end. breathing in the cool air, the mixture of her scent triggered his memory and the name came to him. lichenpaw. a groan was suppressed and he didn't look to her, but he knew that she would attempt to start a conversation with him. of course, her being the new medicine cat apprentice, he would have to at least try and attempt to be civil towards her. a sigh escaped his lips, and he continued to look out over the little water fall, as the she-cat approached him.
"enjoying it as much as any other riverclan cat."
he responded with a bitter chuckle. the sight of the frozen river was really not doing anything to improve his mood in the least. it was going to be a hard and unforgiving leaf-bare, seeing how early in the year it was setting upon them. the leaves were barely even off the trees and it was already setting in on them relentlessly. the river was almost frozen solid, though th strength of the ice that covered it in a delicate blanket was unknown to him. he knew he could easily test such things, but the thought of it being strong enough to support a full grown warrior such as himself, was enough to deter him from testing it. it was much to early to have the river that frozen. "the sight of the frozen river, the lack of prey due to the frozen river, and the fact that everyone is gonna be grouchy becuase of their empty bellies; oh it just brings me joy." sarcasm dripping from his words, he turned his head to look upon the small apprentice and smiled slightly. watching her quizzically, an eyebrow was cocked at the sight of one of her dainty paws striking the layer of ice on the waterfall. whiskers flicking, his eyebrow dropped and proceeded to dip over his eyes. he was interested in the outcome of what the apprentice was doing, though it wouldn't really say much for the strength of the ice. she seemed to weigh no more than a kit, which was due to her young age. but regardless, he continued to watch her until she retracted her paw almost sheepishly from the glacier sheet. the smile that had touched his lips only moments before, grew a little more and he sat himself down upon the frozen earth, cascading his tail upon his large paws. "enjoying yourself?" eaglestrike teased, reverbrating the same question she asked him to suit the situation. she was so young, not old enough to have enjoyed much of a kithood, but young enough to still want to. sometimes, the deputy thought to himself, he would love to be a kit again, not having to worry about the politics of the clan. when you're a kit, all you have to worry about is when you'll get fed next, and the anticipation of receiving your apprentice name. the smile fell from his face, and he looked away from lichenpaw. - - - - - - - - - - five four five - words not bad - muse such a beautiful post dino <3 - comments lichenpaw & open - tags [/blockquote][/blockquote]

when she had asked her question upon meeting him, the feline had not looked directly at him, but rather at the frozen water. she did not notice the decisions flashing through his eyes, him wondering whether to acknowledge such a young cat as a conversing partner. although he eventually did, and the tabby would prick her ears to ensure she caught his every word. the words sounded friendly enough, although the bitter chuckle toward the end was enough to tell her not to pry too much, and she kept her mouth closed for a good few minutes after he spoke.
just as well, because no long after his reply to her, he was off, describing his hatred for the leafbare season and the troubles it brought. she could understand where he was coming from, although she had other problems caused by the weather to worry about. "i get what you mean; it's the same in the medicine den. a lot of herbs can't out stand the cold weather, and perish. usually it's the herbs we need for greencough, which is just our luck." she replied, speaking gently as she usually did, her words sounding like nothing but a second thought as she begun to paw at the ice. the tabby had no idea that the deputy had been watching her doing so, and her body flinched in shock as he spoke.
"huh? oh, i guess. i was just curious how strong the river was is all..." she meowed, her voice fading off in embarrassment fr being caught doing something so childish. in front of the deputy too! oh, what if he tells the other warriors, and they think i'm too childish to be a proper medicine cat? she fretted, biting her bottom lip, a habit she had gained from kithood. the main reason she had become medicine cat was because she was frightened of being a warrior. whereas most kits dreamed of that day when they earned their full rank as a warrior, she despised it. what if she tripped over? bumped into the leader and hurt them? what if she failed in battle and was exiled for being stupid? silly things like this worried lichenpaw to extremes, but she managed to hide it all and keep a strong face on. the warriors of her clan deserved to know that their medicine cat apprentice was strong.
she decided to leave all those thoughts behind, and turned to face the deputy with a smile upon her muzzle, only to see him turn away from her. uh oh, this didn't look good. "something wrong?"[/style] |
