They shone onto the small figure of a black feline, his eyes opened slowly as the world around him seemed to arrive in a blurry fashion. As he lifted his head in a dazed nature, small clumps of forest green moss fell from his chin. It was the same situation every rising morning for Beetlepaw, "ten more minutes" would turn into "thirty more minutes" which would go on to more than an hour of sleep. It seemed that each day he wasted more energy and was required to sleep even more. There was one problem, though, each morning he was rudely awaken by all the apprentices bustling around the den. "Could you guys seriously get any louder?!" He asked rhetorically, the weight of his own head dropping it back down to the ground. Just as Beetlepaw was about to drop back into dream land he was awaken by an unsteady, and rather sleepy, apprentice crashing into him. In shock, Beetlepaw found himself stumbling to his paws, fiercely blinking away the drowsiness in his eyes.
"Alright, I'm up! Don’t have to tackle me you frogbrain," He slurred, extending his claws into the moss on which he slept as he gave his back a good stretch. The almost audible sound of his back cracking sent a weird (though not uncommon) sensation through his body and he shivered. The same routine, the same sun, the same everything despite the passing days. Beetlepaw had to squint when he stepped outside of the apprentice den. Despite the fact that the sun had just barely passed over the horizon, the rays of sunlight and heat it cast down on them were strong enough to melt the wings of a butterfly almost instantly if it even dared to set foot on a rock. Okay...so maybe not really, but that's what it seemed like. Ever since Leaf-fall had come to the Clans, although prey had been seemingly endless, Beetlepaw could do without the stuffiness of the heat and humidity. As if he was going to let anyone else know it bothered him, though. He'd strut his stuff and act like it didn't bother him at all. Then there was the prey. Now that sounded just pleasant right now, and he faintly recalled his mentor, Grayblaze, telling him they were going to go do some hunting practice today.
The problem was, Beetlepaw didn’t need that bag of fleas to help him. He was perfectly capable of handling on his own. Sure he was 6 moons old and had no experience, but he didn’t need help. Although he didn't bother much to bring back prey to the Clan before he stuffed himself. His father used to get on him a lot about eating before the queens and elders got their food. Of course, Beetlepaw didn't like the old fart so he never listened. The black apprentice stretched out his limbs one more time before bounding out of the Clan camp. Either grayblaze would already be there and Beetlepaw could show him just how good he was, or if he wasn't he could do some of his own hunting, maybe kill a rabbit or something and still show grayblaze how amazing he was. Trotting out of the camp to a territory he’d only technically explored once. Though he snuck out of camp a lot of nights just so he could go play pretend, not a lot of cats in the Clan knew that. Beetlepaw had no friends, so he made up friends of his own. Slowing down at the stream, the black apprentice bent over and took a sip of water as he prayed to StarClan Grayblaze would forget all about it.
